Job Description: Construction Lead

Reports To: Director of Construction

Summary: The Community Renovation and Repairs Construction Lead will be responsible for bidding and completing construction projects of the social enterprise.  Duties include, but are not limited to, completing construction tasks, overseeing employees, managing safety protocols, managing and ordering materials, planning, permitting, site management, and bidding on jobs to be completed by the social enterprise. 

Principal Areas of Responsibility (85% of requirement)

Construction Tasks

Completing construction repair/rehab projects on time and on budget.

Oversee employees on crew at construction site.

Communicate with clients, subcontractors and/or inspectors.

Schedule and assign work to employees on crew and identify/schedule subcontractors as needed.

Site Development/Maintenance

Ensures worksites are kept in safe, tidy manner.

Inspect and maintain tools, safety equipment and other items as necessary.

Pre/Post Build Management

Identify and provide bids for potential projects in conjunction with Construction Director and Executive Director.

As needed, apply for permits, arrange for site plans, erosion draining and surveys to be done.

Order temporary power and restrooms for build sites as needed.

Responsible for tracking project budget and timeline (in conjunction with other staff).

Ensure projects are inspected (as needed) and signed off upon completion.

Construction Management/Scheduling

Identify and hire crew members.

Schedule/assign crew members to jobs/tasks and track employee time using timesheets (to be turned into office each week).

Maintain construction schedules.

Submit invoices/receipts for payment and logging into system.

Implement safety program and assure safe construction practices on all sites.

Construction Procedure

Oversee all warranty work on completed projects (if necessary).

Other Areas of Responsibility (15% of requirement)

Cultivate relationships.

Help develop policies and procedures regarding construction.

Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

7 years construction experience (Experience managing a construction crew or managing own construction business a plus)

Skills in basic electrical trades

Skills in basic plumbing trades

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to read construction drawings

Ability to complete construction tasks

Knowledge of all phases of construction

Team Player

Ability to plan, organize and delegate

Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form

Broad mobility, ability to climb ladders to roof level and into foundations

Ability to lift at least 75lbs

Travel to construction sites in own vehicle

Ability to drive vehicles with trailers as well as other vehicles


Salary begins at $42,000 and is based on experience. Habitat for Humanity of SE Ohio offers two weeks of paid time off, paid holidays and an IRA retirement match.  No health insurance is offered at this time.
